Thoughts on Consistency
Consistency is underrated and often seen as boring. How can we be more consistent?
When I used to work at a well-known large rideshare company the top engineers there would consistently show up and deliver value. They always made good on their promises, were able to come up with solutions that just worked and were able to ruthlessly prioritize based on what was needed by the company at the time. As a junior engineer, it was inspiring to see this, since I personally lacked this crucial quality. My side projects also never really met the mark or gained the traction I was hoping for. I realized I needed to develop consistency in my life if I wanted to be successful.
How can you develop consistency?
In order to develop consistency you need to:
Have a goal or focus, this can also be something you are passionate about.
Be disciplined, it’s easy to give up on something if it’s looking like it’s not working out.
Create accountability, you need an incentive to stay consistent.
Make it a habit, once consistency becomes a habit it’s effortless.
Although I’m not fully there yet I try to work on the points above to develop true consistency which I hope will enable me to reach new heights.
